Saddleridge Fire

HAPCOA LA is proud to work with and serve the Los Angeles community, but we also want to ensure each of you is safe and prepared for any natural disasters. With the recent fire in the Saddleridge community, and all the other past fires in California, we know how devastating these disasters can be if one is not both mentally and physically prepared to deal with it. Thankfully, our Los Angeles Fire Department have already wrote up a quick and easy guide to fire safety and having a Ready, Set, Go! plan in the event of a wild fire.

For those that are near the current Saddleridge fire and evacuation is imminent, here are some things to start gathering to make evacuation easier:

  • Keep a pair of old shoes and a flashlight handy for a night evacuation.
  • Keep the six “P’s” ready, in case immediate evacuation is required:
    • People and pets
    • Papers, phone numbers, and important documents
    • Prescriptions, vitamins, and eyeglasses
    • Pictures and irreplaceable memorabilia
    • Personal computers (information on hard drive and disks)
    • “Plastic” (credit cards, ATM cards) and cash

Please take the time to check out these links to better prepare yourself for any fire situation.

Congratulations Maria Gutierrez

It is with great honor and sadness to announce that Maria Gutierrez will be retiring soon from the Los Angeles Country Sheriff's Department. She had a long run of 34 years in law enforcement, starting from a deputy and climbing her way to Assistant Sheriff. But her journey is not yet through. On August 12 of 2019, Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Maria as the new Commissioner for the State of California Board of Parole Hearings. She will be conducting parole suitability hearings and parole reconsideration and rescission hearings for adult offenders, among other multitude of responsibilities.

Though Maria will be leaving us in law enforcement, she will be moving forward onto a new and exciting opportunity, where she will still be working with us as the Commissioner, continuing to serve our community in another way.

Please join us in congratulating Maria Gutierrez on her new position as the Commissioner for the State of California Board of Parole Hearings.

Thank you for your service!
